So I’m only about 15 episodes through my IBO rewatch, but you’re actually right, Mikazuki does emote more while he’s fighting. There’s still some of that flat affect, but we see more of his expressions and his voice reflects his emotions a lot more. I remember at some point during the Dort arc I was actually a bit shocked because he yelled, but we didn’t see his face. I think the show does that a lot, letting us hear him emoting but not seeing it, creating that distance. Maybe because all the feedback gets relayed to him via Alaya-Vijnana, everything is heightened for him, including his emotions.

Suletta committing acts of unspeakable violence in her Gundam with a smile is way more horrifying than Mikazuki doing it with a blank face actually
